R C Lowles
Mentioned in Despatches
No. 6401391 C.Q.M.S. R.C. Lowles (since commissioned)
Was “C” Coy C.Q.M.S. having no previous experience in this work, this man assumed the duties of C.Q.M.S. as a Lance-Corporal at the end of 1939. His department was always an example of perfect orderliness and correction. On May 18 after the Battalion had suffered casualties by being bombed whilst in a train, he assumed the duties of R.Q.M.S. to my complete satisfaction - until on 20 May he led a platoon of men into action against Rommel’s Panzer Division with great gallantry. For the loyalty, courage and devotion to duty of this Staff Sergeant, I recommend that he be Mentioned in Despatches.
